(Pocket-lint) – Instagram started allowing users to stream live video last year, but it hasn’t allowed users to save broadcasts.
But the app has now been updated, finally allowing users to download shows to their phone once they’re done. Twitter’s Periscope and even Facebook’s Live have long allowed users to save videos. This new update therefore helps to better align Instagram live videos. Live videos will continue to disappear from the app when you’re done – only now you can save your video and watch it later.
Here’s how the new feature works.
How to Record Live Videos on Instagram
Start a live video
- Tap the Camera icon at the top left of the screen.
- Then tap Live at the bottom of the screen, then tap Start Live Video.
Record live video
- When your live stream is over, tap Record in the top right corner.
- After saving, tap Done. Your live video will then be saved to your camera roll.
Saving a live video to your phone may take a minute, especially for longer videos. Additionally, you will only be able to save videos – no comments, likes or interactions, and your live video will no longer be available on Instagram.
When will live video backups be available?
The ability to record live videos on Instagram is rolling out, with the latest version of Instagram for iOS and Android.
