Pune: Poona Music Society (PMS) resumed cultural events and live concerts after two years. The events are open to everyone for free.
The first concert after the break will be on May 20 at Mazda Hall with London-based Australian pianist Piers Lane. Along with his extensive discography, Lane was made an Officer of the Order of Australia (AO) for distinguished service to the arts on the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee anniversary. He is now artistic director of the Sydney International Piano Competition.
Jehangir Batliwala, Honorary Secretary of PMS, said: “Over the past two years, we have organized online concerts in collaboration with consulates, governments and musicians around the world. Our members were eager to attend live concerts as soon as they were vaccinated, but it was not so easy to organize these events including global artists due to travel restrictions and regulations international and other reasons.
“Now that getting around is a little easier, we are starting to organize special events featuring international artists again in the city. Before the pandemic, the PMS hosted nearly 30 live concerts a year,” he said.
Batliwala added that this year, featuring Piers, they will bring a Polish-Ukrainian band to perform for a ‘solidarity’ concert on May 29 and have planned June with a French music festival followed by a concert of a later Swiss pianist. in the month with other events.
