South West England is blanketed in a red warning, with residents told to expect ‘flying debris…damage to buildings and homes, with roofs torn off and power lines down’.
Travel chaos is also very likely, with road, rail and ferry services affected. The alert is in place from 7 a.m. and will remain so until 3 p.m.

The roads are also expected to be treacherous on Friday.
